چکیده

For transverse profile determination a non-intercepting Beam Induced Fluorescence (BIF)-monitor was developed. The BIF-monitor detects fluorescence light emitted by residual gas molecules after atomic collisions with beam ions [1]. Using an imaging spectrograph the spectral response was mapped and associated with the corresponding gas transitions in helium, argon, krypton, xenon and nitrogen. Spectrally resolved beam profiles were obtained from the spectrographic images simultaneously. The present study with 5 MeV/u proton, S and Ta-ions reproduced the results of earlier studies with a 95 keV proton beam [2]. Moreover, the camera system connected to the spectrograph was image intensified, to provide single photon detection in order to resolve even weak transitions [3].

Beam Induced Fluorescence Monitor - Spectroscopy in Nitrogen, Helium, Argon, Krypton and Xenon Gas

As conventional intercepting diagnostics will not withstand high intensity ion beams, Beam Induced Fluorescence (BIF) profile monitors constitute a preeminent alternative for non-intercepting profile measurements [1]. This diagnostic technique makes use of the optical fluorescence emission of beam-excited gases. Recently BIF became an important diagnostic tool for transversal beam profile measu...

Transverse Profile Measurement using Beam Induced Fluorescence (BIF)

Non-intercepting Beam Induced Fluorescence (BIF) monitors measure transversal beam profiles by observation of fluorescence light originating from excited residual gas molecules. Thus they are an alternative to conventional intercepting devices. Single photon counting is performed using an image intensified digital CCD camera. We investigated the BIF process in the energy range of 7.7 keV/u to 7...
